The Safe Schools Coalition has created a list of suggested curricula and resources for recognizing Harvey Milk Day in elementary schools including how to use Harvey Milk as an example to discuss nonviolent activism. As Our Family Coalition wrote in a recent email, “By giving voice to our champions for equality, we are providing wonderful role models for our kids to look up to.”
On Thursday, May 18, 2011, our school will present its annual Civil Rights Assembly at 6pm.
On Saturday, May 21, 2011, the Cruisin’ the Castro tour from 10am-Noon will donate 50% of the tour proceeds to our school! The tour meets at the rainbow flag pole (Castro/Market) at 10am. Cost is $35 adults, $25 children 5-12years, under 5 years are free.

11am-5pm 19th Street between Collingwood and Diamond, in front of our school, will be closed for a carnival and live entertainment. BBQ and fixings will be available.
Book Fair raising money for the school’s library
Drag Café Dinner Show 6pm-8:30pm, hosted by Ivy Drip and other amazing San Francisco Drag Queens and Kings who will “Serve and Sing!” This is a kid-friendly drag show and just $15 adults, $7 kids for pasta dinner and salad and show!
The new Harvey Milk Day 2011 T-shirt designs are in and available for purchase at Zazzle. They’ll also be available on Saturday May 21 at the school and at a table in front of De La Sole shoe store on Castro between 18th and 19th.

On April 4, Principal Velasco returned to Comcast Newsmakers to discuss the school’s Harvey Milk Day celebration and activities.
