Early Release Form 2011-12 (PDF download): this is required if you will pick your child up before 6:15pm

The before/after-school program is run by Friends of Harvey Milk (FoHM) with grants and individual donations. It is available to all students.  The grants for the programs cover almost all of the cost, but they don’t cover the last $1 per hour per child. Please contribute to Friends of Harvey Milk in order to sustain the program. The suggested monthly donation is $80 per month per child in either volunteer time or money. Contact Susan Tramontana, the site coordinator, at afterschoolatharveymilkdotcom, if you’d like to volunteer your time. Information about how to donate  is on FoHM’s web site.

The After School program offers a variety of great choices for the kids, in addition ongoing tutoring and academics:

In 2010-2011, the afterschool hip hop dancers performed at a Women’s Cal Berkeley Basketball Game, an SF Parks & Reg event, and Revolution in Art and Dance. The photography club, digital design club, and the video game design club all had their work shown on the big screen at the Bridge Theater.

Outside community organizations who brought programs to work with the children in 2010-2011 included: MakeArt Project, Community Walls Project, SF Parks & Rec, Morphonix “Everybody Has a Brain,” Lighthouse for the Blind, and Chess Wizards. Additionally, some classes visited Mission Science Workshop.

For Friday Clubs, the kids choose from:

Snacks!! We are working to improve the After School snack program.  The first thing we’re did was replace juice boxes with tap water and the children learned about tap water.  The second thing we did was change our fruit vendor to The Fruit Guys. Now we get delicious organic fruit for every child every day! We are continuing to  improve the nutrition of the food the children eat for snack.

We’re looking for ideas for healthy snacks for the kids on our tight budget and/or a sponsor for healthy snacks.  Send suggestions or ideas for sponsorship or an offer of sponsorship to Susan Tramontana (who runs the after school program) at afterschoolatharveymilkdotcom
